JP Group Heater Air Channel Tin, Upper Front Right, Black — VW Type 4 Engine (JP-8125-0)
Short answer: JP-8125-0 is the black steel warm-air heater channel (engine tin) that sits at the upper front right of the air-cooled VW Type 4 engine, carrying warm air from the cooling fan housing toward the right heat exchanger. JP Group cross-references it to VW OE 021 119 362 C (JP ref 8112002282). EMPI labels it for Type 2 and Type 4, which means the 1972–1979 Bus with the Type 4 engine and the VW 411/412. Sold each.
Part numbers: JP-8125-0 · OE 021 119 362 C (021 119 362 family) · JP Group 8112002282 · UPC 707924524604.
Fitment
| Years | Vehicle | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1972–1979 | VW Bus (Bay Window) with Type 4 engine, 1.7 / 1.8 / 2.0 | Fitment to confirm — EMPI labels the part "T-II, IV" but publishes no year list |
| 1969–1974 | VW 411 / 412 (Type 4) | VW Classic Parts lists the earlier 021 119 362 A as the front right warm-air channel for the 411/412 and Type 4 industrial engine |
| 1980–1983 | VW Vanagon air-cooled 2.0 | Not confirmed — compare with your old tin |
| 1970–1976 | Porsche 914 1.7 / 1.8 / 2.0 | Not confirmed — the 914 uses its own fan housing and tin |
| Any | Type 1 upright engines (Beetle, Ghia, 1600 Bus) | Does not fit — different tin and heater boxes |
| Any | Left side | Does not fit — this is the right-hand part |
Fitment note: EMPI's page title reads "Type 1 & Type 4", but its stock description reads "T-II, IV" and the 021 prefix is a Type 4 engine number. We list it as a Type 4 engine part. Please compare the shape with your old tin, or email us your engine code before ordering.

What's Included
- One right-hand upper front heater air channel tin.
Not Included
- The left-hand channel and the rest of the engine tin set
- Heat exchangers, heater hoses and hose seals
- Tin screws and clips
Why It Matters
On an air-cooled engine, the sheet-metal tin is part of the cooling and heating system, not decoration. The fan pushes air through the tin, across the cylinders and into the heat exchangers. A missing, cracked or rusted heater channel lets that air escape, so you get weak cabin heat and, worse, hot spots on the engine because air is not being forced where it should go. Type 4 tin is much harder to find than Beetle tin, and many Buses have lost pieces after decades of engine swaps. Replacing a damaged channel restores proper airflow and seals the hot side of the engine bay.
Installation Notes
- Work on a cold engine. On most Buses the engine must be lowered or removed to reach the front tin.
- Note how the old channel overlaps the fan housing and cylinder tin before you remove it.
- Fit the new channel with clean screws and make sure every seam overlaps in the original direction, so air is not lost.
- Replace any torn heater hose seals at the tin while you are there.
- Check for rattles and air leaks after the first run.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this fit my 1976 Bus?
It is labeled by EMPI for the Type 2 with the Type 4 engine, which every 1975–1979 Bus has. Compare the shape with your old tin to confirm.
Does it fit my Beetle?
No. Beetle (Type 1) engines use different tin.
Left or right — how do I tell?
This is the right-hand (passenger side in the US) upper front channel when standing behind the vehicle looking forward.
Is this the same as OE 021 119 362 C?
Yes. EMPI and JP Group cross-reference JP-8125-0 to 021 119 362 C.
Does it fit a Porsche 914?
Not confirmed. The 914 Type 4 uses its own fan and tin layout.
Is it new?
Yes. New, black, supplied by JP Group of Denmark through EMPI.
