JP Group Inner Vent Window Scraper Seal, Left | VW Beetle & Super Beetle 1970–1979 | JP 8186000470 (JP-8637-0)
Short answer: The JP Group JP-8637-0 is an inner window scraper seal for the left (driver) side of the 1970–1979 VW Beetle and the 1971–1980 Super Beetle. It wipes the glass and seals the gap at the inside of the door window and vent wing. JP Group ref. 8186000470. Sold each. EMPI's page suggests it is the convertible type.
Fitment
| Years | Vehicle | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1970–1979 | VW Beetle | Left side, per EMPI Fits |
| 1971–1980 | VW Super Beetle | Left side, per EMPI Fits |
| Any | Right side | Not this part |
| Pre-1970 | Beetle — not confirmed | Earlier seals differ |
EMPI's data for this part is mixed. The product name says 'Right Inner Scraper', but the fitment field says left side, and the page address ('window-seal-left-t-i-conv') says left and suggests a convertible. The JP reference ending in 70 also matches JP's left-side numbering. We list it as left. Compare the photo and length with your old seal before ordering.

What's Included
- One inner window scraper seal, left.
Not Included
- Right side seal
- Outer scraper
- Clips or vent wing seals
Why It Matters
The inner scraper wipes the glass every time you wind the window down. Old scrapers go hard, crack and lose their felt. Water then runs into the door, the window rattles and the glass gets scratched by grit.
On a convertible this seal matters even more, because water from the top runs down the glass. A new scraper keeps water out of the door and the window quiet.
Installation Notes
- Lower the window fully before you start.
- Remove the door panel to reach the scraper on most cars.
- Note how the old scraper and any clips come out, and fit the new one the same way.
- Work the new seal into place by hand. Do not use sharp tools against the glass.
- Wind the window up and down a few times to check it runs smoothly.
- We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual (Bentley) for your vehicle.
