Why It Matters
Plastic trim clips go brittle with age and heat. They snap the first time a sill trim is pulled for carpet, wiring or rust work, and a missing clip lets the trim lift, rattle and catch on shoes.
Buying new clips before the job means the trim goes back tight and quiet. At this price it pays to order a few spares. JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic and later Volkswagens, sold in the US through EMPI. Washburn's Metal in Orange, CA lists each JP part with its VW OE number and JP reference so you can check it against your old part before you order.
Installation Notes
- Pry the old trim up gently with a plastic trim tool, as close to each clip as you can.
- Pull any broken clip pieces out of the body holes.
- Press the new clip onto the trim (or into the hole, depending on location), line up all clips and push the trim home until each clip seats.
- Do not hammer the trim; press by hand along its length.
