Why It Matters
A lighter flywheel lets the engine rev up and drop back more quickly. On a street engine you feel quicker throttle response and easier rev matching. It is a common upgrade on a performance 1600 or a stroker build.
The 8-dowel pattern gives a much stronger crank-to-flywheel joint than the stock 4-dowel design, which matters if you add power. Replace a flywheel with a worn ring gear, cracks or a step worn into the friction face.
Installation Notes
- Confirm your crankshaft is drilled for 8 dowels before you order.
- Fit new dowel pins, a new O-ring and a new felt washer in the gland nut.
- Set crankshaft end play with shims, using the method in your workshop manual.
- Torque the gland nut to the factory value and lock it as your manual says.
- Use a matching 200 mm clutch and check the starter engages cleanly with the 130-tooth gear.
- We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual (Bentley) for your vehicle.
