Why It Matters
The 996 lower "tuning fork" arm carries the wheel through its inner bushing. When that bushing tears or the rubber goes soft you get a clunk over bumps, wandering under braking, uneven tire wear and an alignment that will not hold. Because the bushing is part of the arm on the 996, the usual fix is a new arm.
Replacing the arms in pairs keeps the car balanced side to side. JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement and reproduction parts for classic Porsche and Volkswagen, and its Dansk and SSI lines cover hard-to-find Porsche exhaust and body parts. EMPI is JP Group's US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each part with its real OE and JP Group reference numbers so you can check it against your car before you order. Meyle and Lemförder also make this OE number; JP-9906-0 is the JP Group version.
Installation Notes
- Mark or photograph the eccentric bolts before removal so the alignment starts close.
- Do not tighten the bushing bolts with the suspension hanging; tighten at ride height with the car's weight on the wheels.
- Use new bolts and nuts as Porsche specifies for this joint.
- Transfer or replace the ball joint as required.
- Get a four-wheel alignment after fitting.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it fit my 2002 911 Carrera 4?
Yes. EMPI lists the 1999–2005 996 with the 3.4 and 3.6 engines, front and rear.
Is it left or right?
Either side. The same arm fits all four lower positions.
Is it the same as 996 341 043 03?
Yes. That is the OE number EMPI lists; Porsche later superseded it to 996 341 043 06.
Does it come with a ball joint?
No. It has the bushing fitted, no ball joint.
What else do I need?
New mounting hardware and an alignment.
Does it fit a 986 Boxster?
The OE number is listed for the Boxster front lower position, but EMPI does not list it. Compare with your old arm.
Is it new?
Yes, new JP Group.
