Why It Matters
The lower grille on a water-cooled Vanagon sits right where stones and curbs hit. Old plastic goes brittle, the tabs snap and pieces fall out, letting debris into the radiator area and making the front of the van look tired.
A new OE-quality grille restores the look and protects the radiator. JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement and reproduction parts for classic Porsche and Volkswagen, and its Dansk and SSI lines cover hard-to-find Porsche exhaust and body parts. EMPI is JP Group's US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each part with its real OE and JP Group reference numbers so you can check it against your car before you order.
Installation Notes
- Remove the old grille carefully; note how the clips and tabs locate.
- Replace broken clips at the same time.
- Do not force the tabs in cold weather; warm plastic flexes rather than snaps.
- Check the grille sits flush with the front panel all the way across.
