Fitment
| Years | Vehicle | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1961–1965 | VW Beetle 40 hp 1200 | Per EMPI, block mounted |
| 1961–1965 | VW Karmann Ghia 40 hp 1200 | Per EMPI, block mounted |

| 1966–1979 | 1300 / 1500 / 1600 engines | Does not fit as listed — later engines use a different pump body and fittings; check the 113 127 025 D / G pumps |
| Any | Type 4 engines and fuel-injected cars | Does not fit — these use an electric pump |
| 1950–1960 | 25 / 36 hp engines | Does not fit — different pump |
Push rod note: Generator engines use the long 108 mm fuel pump push rod. Alternator conversions use the short 100 mm push rod. Use the push rod that matches your engine, and set pump height with the correct spacer gaskets.

What's Included
- One mechanical fuel pump with outlet fitting.
Not Included
- Fuel pump push rod (108 mm or 100 mm)
- Intermediate flange and spacer gaskets
- Mounting nuts, fuel hose and hose clamps
Why It Matters
The fuel pump is the single biggest cause of engine fires on an air-cooled VW. When the diaphragm cracks or the crimp around the pump body loosens, the pump can push fuel out onto a hot engine. A failing pump also causes hard starting, stalling after a few miles and a stumble on hills as fuel delivery falls off. The 40 hp 1200 used its own pump layout, and many generic pumps sold for it are the later 1300–1600 style, which can need different fittings. This OE-style pump keeps the stock look and the correct outlet for an early engine.
Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery and keep a fire extinguisher close. Clamp the fuel hose from the tank before you start.
- Check the push rod length and the stroke at the pump with the correct gaskets before you fit the pump.
- Use new fuel hose rated for modern ethanol fuel, with proper clamps on every joint.
- Tighten the mounting nuts evenly. Do not over-tighten, which can distort the base.
- Run the engine and check every joint for leaks. Check again after the first hot drive.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this fit my 1964 Beetle?
Yes, with its original 40 hp 1200 engine. EMPI lists JP-8133-0 for 1961–1965.
Does it fit my 1967 Beetle with a 1500?
Not as listed. 1300–1600 engines normally use a later pump. Compare the base and outlet with your old pump.
Is this the same as OE 113 127 025?
EMPI cross-references it to 113 127 025, and Mid America lists JP 8115200700 under 211 127 025.
Do I need a new push rod?
Only if yours is worn or the wrong length. Generator engines use the 108 mm rod; alternator engines use the 100 mm rod.
What else do I need?
New pump gaskets, new fuel hose and clamps.
Is it new or rebuilt?
New, supplied by JP Group of Denmark through EMPI.
