What's Included
- One middle side window seal.
Not Included
- Glass, chrome insert trim, seal sealant or install cord.
- Order one per window. Most buses have a middle window on each side.
Why It Matters
The fixed side windows on a Bay Window Bus are held in by the rubber seal alone. After forty-plus years the rubber goes hard, shrinks at the corners and cracks along the outer lip. Water then runs down between the glass and the body, rusts the window flange and soaks the interior panels and floor. A loose seal also lets the glass rattle and, in a bad case, the glass can pop out.
Fitting a new seal is the only real fix, and it is best done whenever the window flange is repaired or the bus is painted.
JP Group is a Danish supplier that has specialised in classic Volkswagen and Porsche parts for decades, and EMPI distributes the range in the USA. Their parts are made to match the original design, so they fit without the guesswork that comes with generic replacements.
Installation Notes
- Remove the old seal and glass. Clean and treat any rust on the window flange before fitting the new seal.
- Fit the seal to the glass first, then run a strong cord in the body groove and pull it from inside while a helper presses on the glass from outside.
- Warm the seal in the sun or with warm water so it is soft and easier to fit.
- A little soapy water or rubber lube helps the lip slide over the flange. Do not use oil-based lube.
- Professional installation is recommended if you have not fitted window seals before.
- Follow the factory workshop manual (Bentley or VW) for your model. If in doubt, have a qualified mechanic fit the part.
Frequently Asked Questions
