JP Group Oil Cooler Seal Conversion Kit, 8 mm to 10 mm | VW Beetle, Bus & Ghia 1950–1970 | OE 111 198 029 (JP-8660-0)
Short answer: The JP Group JP-8660-0 is the oil cooler seal conversion kit for fitting a later 10 mm-port (1971-on or doghouse) oil cooler to an early air-cooled VW case with 8 mm oil ports. EMPI lists the 1950–1970 Beetle, Karmann Ghia 1955–1970 and Bus 1949–1970. It replaces OE 111 198 029 (JP Group ref. 8113550416). Sold as a kit.

Why It Matters
VW enlarged the oil cooler ports from 8 mm to 10 mm in 1971. If you fit a later cooler, or the better doghouse cooler, to an earlier case, the standard seals will not seal. Oil then leaks inside the fan shroud and gets sprayed over the engine. Low oil pressure and oil smoke can follow.
This kit uses stepped seals that fit the 8 mm case and the 10 mm cooler, so the joint seals properly. It is a cheap part that protects the engine.
Installation Notes
- Confirm your case has 8 mm oil ports before you fit these seals.
- Remove all traces of the old seals from the case and cooler.
- Fit the seals dry or lightly oiled, the way your workshop manual says.
- Tighten the cooler nuts evenly and do not over-tighten.
- Run the engine to temperature and check for leaks before refitting the shroud.
- We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual (Bentley) for your vehicle.
