Why It Matters
The dipstick tube on a Wasserboxer is long and only held by this small bracket. When the bracket rusts through or breaks, the tube vibrates, the seal at the block wears, and oil can weep out of the tube base. A loose tube can also be knocked out of place during service.
VW no longer supplies 025 115 632, so a new bracket is the clean fix instead of zip ties or hose clamps. JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic and later Volkswagens, sold in the US through EMPI. Washburn's Metal in Orange, CA lists each JP part with its VW OE number and JP reference so you can check it against your old part before you order.
Installation Notes
- Remove the old bracket bolt and the broken bracket.
- Check the dipstick tube seal at the crankcase and replace it if it is hard or leaking.
- Fit the new bracket, align the tube so it is not stressed, and tighten the bolt.
- Check the dipstick goes in and out smoothly.
