What's Included
- One oil filler pipe
Not Included
- Oil filler cap
- Filler pipe to engine gasket (025 115 315)
- Breather hoses and clamps
Why It Matters
The Vanagon oil filler pipe is often cracked, bent or corroded where it meets the case, or damaged when someone has pulled the engine. A leaking filler pipe drips oil onto the exhaust and the left side of the engine, makes a mess of the engine bay and can create a burning smell. A bent pipe can make topping up oil awkward and let dirt in. Fitting a new pipe with a new gasket stops the leak at the source.
Installation Notes
- Clean the area around the base of the pipe before removal so dirt does not fall into the crankcase.
- Fit a new filler pipe gasket and torque the fasteners to the figure in your workshop manual.
- Inspect the breather hoses and cap seal while you are there, and replace any that are hard or cracked.
- Run the engine and check for leaks at the base after the first drive.
Before You Order
Confirm three things. First, that your van is a two-wheel-drive Vanagon, not a Syncro: the Syncro sits higher and uses its own filler pipe. Second, that the engine is a water-cooled Wasserboxer (1.9 or 2.1), not the earlier air-cooled 2.0 or the diesel. Third, if you can, read the part number cast or stamped on the old pipe and compare it with 025 115 302. Vanagons built after 1987 are not confirmed for this part, so the number check matters most on 1988–1991 vans.
