Why It Matters
The rear bumper on a 1968–1973 Beetle takes every parking knock, and water sits between the bar and the bumper irons. After fifty years most original bumpers are dented, pitted and rusting through from the inside. A straight new chrome bar is one of the quickest ways to make an early Super Beetle or late-sixties Beetle look right again.
This JP Group bumper is the Brazil-made version. It is a practical choice for a driver car or a budget restoration. If you want concours-level triple chrome, compare it with the premium bumpers sold elsewhere before you order.
JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic Volkswagens and Porsches, sold under the JP Group, Dansk and Classic names, with EMPI as its US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists every JP part with its VW OE number and JP Group reference so you can check it against your parts book before you order. Send us your year, model and chassis number if you want us to check fitment before it ships.
Installation Notes
- Soak the old bumper bolts in penetrating oil the day before; they are usually rusted.
- Fit new bumper iron seals where the irons pass through the rear fenders.
- Leave the bolts loose, centre the bar and check the gap to the body before tightening.
- Wax the chrome and paint or wax the inside of the bar to slow rust.
