Short answer: The JP Group JP-8634-0 is the weld-in rear floor pan quarter section, left (driver) side, for the 1955–1974 VW Karmann Ghia and the 1973–1974 VW Thing. It repairs the rear of the floor pan half under the seat without replacing the whole pan. Ref 40470-1, JP Group 8183100170; it matches the right-side JP-8463-0.

Why It Matters

The rear of the floor pan, under the rear seat and the battery on a Ghia, is where water collects and battery acid drips. It rusts through long before the front of the pan. A quarter section lets you cut out only the bad metal and keep the solid original pan and its welds.

A holed floor lets water, fumes and road dirt into the car and weakens the seat-belt and seat areas. Fix it before the rot reaches the tunnel or the heater channel.

Installation Notes

  • This is a weld-in panel. Fitting it is body-shop work.
  • Cut out only the rusted metal and leave a good edge for a lap or butt weld.
  • Test-fit and clamp before welding. Stitch-weld in short runs to avoid warping.
  • Use weld-through primer on the joint and seam sealer on top and underneath.
  • Paint and undercoat the underside after welding.
  • We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual (Bentley) for your vehicle.
