What's Included / Not Included
- Included: one roof section, front or rear as selected.
- Not included: rain gutters (unless part of the pressing — confirm from photo), windshield or rear window frame, seam sealer, primer or paint.
Why It Matters
Bay Window roofs rust at the ends. At the front, water collects along the windshield top and the cab roof over the front seats; at the rear, it sits around the rear window and the corners above the engine hatch. Roof racks, leaking gutters and old pop-top or sunroof seals make it worse. Once the roof skin rusts through, water drips into the cab and the headliner.
Replacing a third of the roof is far less work than a full roof skin and keeps the original center section and its factory welds. The pressed section gives you the correct crown and the compound curves at the corners, which are almost impossible to make by hand.
This is a large panel and ships oversize by truck or freight carrier. Allow extra time and inspect it on arrival.
Installation Notes
- This is a weld-in steel panel. It is a job for a body shop or a welder with sheet-metal experience.
- Offer the panel up before you cut anything. Mark the cut line inside sound metal and remove only the rotten section.
- Repair panels usually need some trimming and dressing to fit. Check shape and gaps against the opposite side of the car before tacking.
- Remove the transit coating at the weld zones, use weld-through primer on the joints, tack in place, then stitch-weld in short runs to limit heat warping.
- Seal seams, prime, apply cavity wax to the inside faces and finish with paint and underbody coating.
- Support the roof and measure the body opening diagonally before cutting so the body does not move.
- Butt-weld the joint across the roof in short stitches, moving around the seam to avoid warping the large flat area.
