Why It Matters
Front seats on 1973 and later Beetles slide on rails in the floor using small plastic guides. When they wear or break, the seat rocks, rattles and moves when you brake. A loose seat is also a safety issue because it can shift in a hard stop. New guides take minutes to fit and make the seat feel solid again.
JP Group is a Danish supplier that has specialised in classic Volkswagen and Porsche parts for decades, and EMPI distributes the range in the USA. Their parts are made to match the original design, so they fit without the guesswork that comes with generic replacements.
Installation Notes
- Slide the seat all the way forward, release the stop and lift the seat out of the rails.
- Turn the seat over and pull or pry the old guide off the frame.
- Press the new guide on, and clean and lightly grease the floor rails.
- Refit the seat and check that the seat lock clicks into the rail holes.
- Follow the factory workshop manual (Bentley or VW) for your model. If in doubt, have a qualified mechanic fit the part.
