What's Included / Not Included
- Included: the Sebring header with J-pipes and twin silencers, per EMPI.
- Not included: cylinder-head exhaust gaskets, nuts, heater boxes or heat-riser block-offs. Some installs need pre-heat block-off plates on the intake manifold, so check your carburetor setup.
Why It Matters
The Sebring exhaust is the classic period hot-rod look for a Beetle or Ghia: a 4-into-1 header with twin low silencers and pipes at the rear. It frees up flow over the stock heater-box exhaust and saves weight. The trade-off is no cabin heat, because it replaces the heat exchangers. It suits dry-climate cars, show builds and street cars with a mildly built engine.
Installation Notes
- Use new port gaskets and check every exhaust stud before you start. Replace any that are loose or damaged.
- Fit all four port flanges loosely, then support the silencers and tighten from the heads outward.
- Single-carb cars rely on exhaust pre-heat for the intake manifold. Without it the car can ice up in cool weather. Plan for a dual-carb setup or a heat-riser solution.
- Re-tune the carburetor mixture after the change and check for leaks once the engine is hot.
