Why It Matters
A worn front shift rod bushing lets the long Bus shift rod move around. The shifter feels vague, gears are hard to find and the lever can buzz. Replacing the bushing is the cheapest way to firm up a Bus shifter.
Washburn's Metal also makes a Delrin bushing for the 1966–1973 Bus (BS02). This JP Group part is the OE-style replacement.
JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic Volkswagens and Porsches. Its parts are sold under the JP Group, Dansk and Classic names, and EMPI is its US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each JP part with its VW or Porsche OE number and its JP Group reference, so you can check it against your old part, your parts book or the stamp on the original before you order. If you are not sure whether this part fits your car, send us your year, model, chassis number and engine code and we will check it for you before it ships.
Installation Notes
- Mark the shift rod and coupler position before removal.
- Lightly grease the new bushing.
- Check the rest of the linkage, including the rear bushing and coupler, at the same time.
- Test all gears with the engine off.
Use the torque values and procedures in a factory or Bentley service manual for your car.
