Why It Matters
The sliding door is opened and closed more than any other door on a Bus, and its seal wears fastest, especially at the lower rear corner where the door swings in. A worn seal means wind roar on the freeway, dust inside on dirt roads and water running down the inside of the door and onto the floor, where Bay buses rust out along the sliding door step and the rocker below it. A new seal also stops the door rattling.
JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic Volkswagens and Porsches, sold under the JP Group, Dansk and Classic names, with EMPI as its US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each JP part with its VW OE number and JP Group reference so you can check it against your parts book before you order.
Installation Notes
- Take the old seal off and clean the flange completely. Treat any rust in the door aperture.
- Warm the new seal so it lies flat and bends round the corners without kinking.
- Start at the joint position of the original and press the seal on all the way round. Glue where the original was glued.
- Close the door gently. A new seal is firmer; adjust the striker and rear guide if the door does not latch easily.
