Why It Matters
On the fuel-injected Beetle the single tailpipe is held by a clamp and bracket kit. When it rusts through, the pipe rattles, drops, or leaks exhaust under the rear apron. Fresh hardware lets you hang a new muffler or tailpipe properly and stops the rattle.
Old clamps are usually rusted solid and get cut off during exhaust work, so it makes sense to have this kit on hand before the job starts.
JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic Volkswagens and Porsches. Its parts are sold under the JP Group, Dansk and Classic names, and EMPI is its US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each JP part with its VW or Porsche OE number and its JP Group reference, so you can check it against your old part, your parts book or the stamp on the original before you order. If you are not sure whether this part fits your car, send us your year, model, chassis number and engine code and we will check it for you before it ships.
Installation Notes
- Soak old fasteners with penetrating oil; cut seized clamps instead of twisting the pipe.
- Clean the pipe where the clamp sits so it seals.
- Align the tailpipe so it clears the apron and bumper, then tighten.
- Check for rattles and leaks with the engine running.
Use the torque values and procedures in a factory or Bentley service manual for your car.
