What's Included / Not Included
- Included: One tie rod assembly with both ends.
- Not included: Steering rack, rack boots, mounting nuts or cotter pins (reuse or replace per manual).
Why It Matters
Worn tie rod ends cause play in the steering, wandering, uneven tire wear and a clunk over bumps. Because the late Super Beetle's tie rods bolt to the rack and to the steering arms, a worn end is usually replaced as a full assembly. Torn rubber boots let water in, and the ball joint wears fast after that. Replacing both sides at once keeps the steering feel even and makes the alignment easier to set. The same OE number covers left and right, so a pair of JP-8281-0 does the whole car.
Installation Notes
- Measure or count threads on the old tie rod before removal so the toe setting starts close.
- Use a proper tie rod end puller; hammering the steering arm can damage it.
- Fit new self-locking nuts or cotter pins as the workshop manual specifies.
- Tighten fasteners to factory specification.
- Have the front toe set by an alignment shop after fitting.
- We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual for your vehicle.
