What's Included / Not Included

  • Included: One turn signal cancelling ring with horn contact ring.
  • Not included: Steering wheel, horn button, turn signal switch or horn contact brush.

Why It Matters

If your turn signal won't cancel after a turn, or the horn works only at some steering wheel positions (or not at all), this ring is the usual suspect. The plastic cam that kicks the signal lever back breaks or wears, and the brass horn contact ring loses its connection with the brush on the switch. The part is cheap but the symptoms are annoying and the horn is a safety item. It is also one of those parts that is easy to replace while you have the steering wheel off for another job.

Installation Notes

  • Disconnect the battery before removing the horn button and steering wheel.
  • Mark the steering wheel's position on the shaft so it goes back on centered.
  • Note how the old ring is oriented on the hub and fit the new one the same way, with its cam lined up with the signal switch.
  • Check that the horn contact brush on the switch touches the ring, and clean any corrosion.
  • Reinstall the wheel and tighten the nut to factory specification, then test the horn and signal cancelling in both directions.
  • We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual for your vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the JP-8286-0 fit my 1972 Beetle?
Yes. 1971-and-later Beetles with the column wiper switch use 113 415 660 A.

Does it fit my 1968 Beetle?
No. 1960–1970 Beetles use an earlier ring (113 415 661 C).

Does it fit a Porsche 914?
Yes. EMPI lists the 1970–1976 Porsche 914.

Is this the same as VW 113 415 660 A?
Yes. JP Group lists 113 415 660 A as the OE reference.

My horn only works sometimes. Will this fix it?
Often, yes. A worn contact ring or brush is a common cause. Check the brush and wiring too.

Does it fit my 1975 Bus?
Other catalogs list 1974–1979 Buses; EMPI's list is cut off, so compare your old ring first.

Is it new?
Yes, it is a new JP Group part.
