Why It Matters
The turn signal switch on a 1972–1974 Bus does a lot of work: left and right signals, self-cancelling, high beam and headlight flash. After decades of use the cancelling cam breaks, the contacts burn and the harness gets brittle. Common signs are signals that will not cancel, one side that will not flash, a dead high beam or a stalk that flops.
This part is hard to find new. Mid America lists 211 953 513 J at $245.99 and shows it out of stock. A switch with a fresh harness avoids splicing old, brittle wires and gives you working signals, which you need to be legal on the road.
Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery first.
- Remove the steering wheel and column covers. Note how the cancelling cam lines up with the wheel hub.
- Unplug the old harness at the column connector and route the new harness the same way.
- Check that the signals cancel in both directions with the wheel fitted and centered.
- Test signals, high beam and flash-to-pass before you refit the trim.
- We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual (Bentley) for your vehicle.
