Why It Matters
The Westfalia kitchen lid is opened and closed every time you cook or wash up, and decades of use wear out the hinge. A broken or loose hinge lets the lid drop onto your hand or onto a hot stove, rattles on the road, and can crack the lid itself. Original Westfalia parts are hard to find and used ones are usually just as worn. A new hinge restores a lid that opens and stays put.
Installation Notes
- Open the lid and support it while you remove the old hinge screws.
- Check the screw holes in the cabinet; if the particleboard is stripped, fill and redrill or use slightly larger screws.
- Fit the new hinge, then check the lid opens fully, stays up, and closes flush before tightening the screws fully.
Before You Order
Westfalia interiors changed several times, so compare before you buy. Open the stove and sink lid and look at the hinge or support arm on each side. If yours is a metal hinge-and-stay that holds the lid up over the kitchen unit on a 1985 or later Vanagon Westfalia, this is the part. Count how many are broken: the part is sold each, and many owners replace both so the lid sits level. If your van is a 1980–1984 model or has an aftermarket kitchen, send us a photo first.
