What's Included
- One brown window crank handle
Not Included
- Trim cap / cover, escutcheon (trim ring) and spacer
- Retaining screw or clip
- Window regulator
Why It Matters
Plastic window cranks get brittle with age and sun. The spline inside the handle strips, so the handle spins without moving the glass, or the arm snaps when you wind a stiff window. Brown interiors were common on 914s, 924s and late Super Beetles, and a black replacement stands out. A new brown crank restores the correct color and a firm grip on the regulator.
Installation Notes
- Pry off the trim cap and remove the retaining screw (or release the clip) to remove the old handle.
- Check that the regulator spline is not worn; a stripped regulator shaft will strip a new handle too.
- Set the handle at the same angle as the other door with the window fully closed, then refit the screw and cap.
- If the window is stiff, clean and lubricate the glass channels and regulator rather than forcing the handle.
