What's Included
- One black escutcheon.
Not Included
- Window crank, door handle, spring or retaining pin.
- A full car usually needs four (two cranks, two handles).
Why It Matters
The escutcheon is a small round trim piece that covers the hole in the door panel where the window crank or the inner door handle shaft comes through. It also holds the anti-rattle spring behind the handle. Old escutcheons crack, go brittle, fade or get lost when door panels come off. A missing one leaves a ragged hole in the door card and lets the handle wobble. A new set is the easiest way to finish a door panel job on a 356 or an early Beetle.
JP Group is a Danish supplier that has specialised in classic Volkswagen and Porsche parts for decades, and EMPI distributes the range in the USA. Their parts are made to match the original design, so they fit without the guesswork that comes with generic replacements.
Installation Notes
- Push the door panel in slightly and press the escutcheon back to expose the handle retaining pin.
- Push the pin out with a small punch and slide the handle off the shaft.
- Fit the new escutcheon and spring over the shaft, then refit the handle and pin.
- Line the handle up with the others on the car before you fit the pin.
- Follow the factory workshop manual (Bentley or VW) for your model. If in doubt, have a qualified mechanic fit the part.
