What's Included
- One window regulator for the side you choose
Not Included
- Window crank handle and trim
- Lift channel, glass, felt channels and scrapers
- Door panel clips
Why It Matters
Beetle regulators wear at the gear teeth and the lift arm pivots. Signs are a crank that slips or spins, a window that drops into the door, glass that cocks and binds, or a crunching noise as you wind. A failed regulator leaves the car open to weather and theft. Before you buy, look at the bottom of your old regulator frame: the 1975-and-later regulator has a cranked (bent) extension at the bottom of the frame that suits the late door, while 1968–74 units do not.
Installation Notes
- Remove the crank, armrest, door panel and vapor barrier.
- Lower the glass to reach the lift channel bolts and support the glass while you separate it.
- Compare the new and old regulators side by side before installing.
- Grease the gears and pivots with white lithium grease, and replace hard felt channels and scrapers while the door is open.
- Run the window up and down several times before refitting the panel.
Frequently Asked Questions
