PMO Air Cleaner Stud Set, Short, 8 pcs | Porsche 911 1965–1989 | Water Shield Air Cleaner (PM-O937-0)
Short answer: The PMO PM-O937-0 is a set of 8 short air cleaner studs that hold the PMO Water Shield air cleaner to PMO or Weber three-barrel carburetors on the carbureted air-cooled Porsche 911 (1965–1989). It is the short companion to the tall set PM-O936-0. The single short stud is PMO PM-O144-2. UPC 707924561180.
Fitment
| Years | Vehicle | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1965–1989 | Porsche 911 (air-cooled, carbureted) | PMO or Weber 40/46/50mm carburetors with a PMO Water Shield air cleaner |
| 1965–1989 | Porsche 911 with PMO short-height Water Shield kit | PM-O312-0 (PMO carbs) or PM-O316-0 (Weber carbs) with the 2.25 in PM-O367-2 element. Pairing is based on PMO's short/tall naming; PMO publishes no stud-to-kit chart |
| 1965–1989 | Porsche 911 with standard-height Water Shield kit | Does not fit as intended. Use the tall set PM-O936-0 |
| 1969–1989 | Porsche 911 with factory MFI, CIS or Motronic injection | Does not fit unless the car has been converted to PMO or Weber carburetors |
| 1975–1989 | Porsche 930 Turbo | Does not fit |
| All | Porsche 912 / 914 four-cylinder | Does not fit |
If you are not sure which air cleaner height you have, measure the filter element: the short element is 2.25 in tall and the standard element is 3.25 in tall.

What's included
- 8 short air cleaner studs, PMO PM-O937-0
Not included
- Air cleaner base, top or filter element
- Air filter gaskets
- Carburetors, manifolds or linkage
- Breather elbows or the vapor block kit (PM-O301-0)
Why it matters
The studs are what clamp the Water Shield top and filter element down onto the base. A stud that is too long stops the top from seating or leaves it loose; a stud that is too short will not reach the nut. Both leave a gap where unfiltered air, sand and water can get past the filter and straight into the carburetor throats. Studs also get stripped, bent or lost when the air cleaners come off for carb synchronizing, jetting or valve adjustments. This is the correct-length genuine PMO set for the short-height setup, so you do not have to cut down tall studs or use hardware-store threaded rod.
Installation notes
- Confirm your element height before ordering: short (2.25 in, PM-O367-2) or standard (3.25 in, PM-O367-1).
- Replace studs one at a time so the base and gaskets stay lined up.
- Thread studs in by hand first. If one binds, stop and clean the threads instead of forcing it.
- Tighten snug and even. PMO does not publish a torque value, so do not overtighten into the aluminum base.
- After installing, check that the top sits evenly on the element all the way around.
Frequently asked questions
Does the PMO PM-O937-0 stud set fit my Porsche 911?
It fits the carbureted air-cooled Porsche 911, 1965–1989, running PMO or Weber 40/46/50mm three-barrel carburetors with a PMO Water Shield air cleaner. It does not fit fuel-injected (MFI, CIS or Motronic) 911s unless they have been converted to PMO or Weber carburetors, and it does not fit the 930 Turbo or four-cylinder 912/914 engines.
What is the difference between PM-O937-0 and PM-O936-0?
Stud length. PM-O937-0 is the short air cleaner stud set and PM-O936-0 is the tall set. Both are 8-piece sets for the PMO Water Shield air cleaner. Match the stud to the height of the filter element you run: the short studs go with the short-height setup, the tall studs with the standard-height setup.
Which air cleaner kits use the short studs?
PMO's catalog pairs short and tall studs with its short-height and standard-height Water Shield kits. The short-height kits are PM-O312-0 (PMO carbs) and PM-O316-0 (Weber carbs), which use the 2.25 in tall PM-O367-2 element. PMO does not publish a stud-to-kit chart, so measure your old stud if you are unsure.
How many studs are in the set, and can I buy just one?
The set contains 8 short studs. PMO also lists the single short Water Shield air cleaner stud as PM-O144-2 (each) if you only need to replace one; contact us and we will check availability.
Is this a genuine PMO part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a genuine PMO (Performance Machined Originals) part, supplied through EMPI, PMO's US distributor. It is new, not rebuilt or used.
What else do I need?
Nothing else if your Water Shield air cleaner is already assembled. If you are replacing parts at the same time, check the air filter gasket for Weber carbs (PM-O300-5), the short element (PM-O367-2) and the Water Shield top (PM-O367-5).
Are thread size and stud length published?
No. PMO and EMPI only describe these as short versus tall. Thread size and overall length are not published, so compare against your old stud or the filter element height before ordering. We will add measurements to this listing once we have the part in hand.
