PMO Float Needle (Valve Only) for PMO Carburetors — Air-Cooled Porsche 911 (PM-O105-3)
Short answer: The PMO Float Needle (Valve Only) (PM-O105-3) is a genuine PMO carburetor service part that is the float needle on its own, without the needle seat body (PM-O105-0). It fits PMO triple-barrel carburetors as used on the air-cooled 1965–1989 Porsche 911 and 930. Sold each.

Fitment
| Years | Vehicle | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1965–1989 | Porsche 911 / 930 (air-cooled flat-six) running PMO carburetors | PMO 40, 46 and 50 mm carburetors |
| 1965–1989 | Porsche 911 with original Weber IDA / IDS or Solex carburetors | Not confirmed; PMO parts are made for PMO bodies |
| 1989–1998 | 964 / 993 converted to PMO carburetors | Fits the PMO carburetor, not the car; check your carb |
| Any | Porsche 912, 914 four-cylinder, VW | Not applicable unless running PMO carburetors |
This part fits the PMO carburetor, not a particular car. If your 911 runs a set of PMO carbs, it fits. Not sure what you have? PMO bodies carry the PMO name cast or machined into them; send us a photo and we will check.

Why It Matters
The float needle shuts off fuel when the float bowl is full. A worn or sticky needle lets the bowl overfill, so the carb floods, drips fuel, runs rich and fouls plugs; a needle stuck shut starves the engine. A new needle is the first fix for a carb that floods at idle.
PMO (Performance Machined Originals) builds billet triple-barrel carburetors in the US for the air-cooled Porsche 911 flat-six, in 40, 46 and 50 mm sizes, and supplies every small part as a service item. EMPI distributes PMO. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists PMO small parts one by one so you can buy the single piece you lost or damaged instead of a whole kit.
Installation Notes
- Remove the top cover, lift out the float, and change the needle with the float pin removed.
- Check the needle seat for dirt and replace the seat body if it is scored.
- Re-check float level with the PMO float level gauge after fitting.
- Work on a cold engine with the fuel pump off and a fire extinguisher close by.
- Clean the area around the part before opening the carburetor so dirt cannot fall into the float bowl or throats.
- After any work, check the throttle opens fully and closes with no sticking, and check for fuel leaks before starting.
- Re-balance the carburetors with a synchrometer if you disturbed any linkage or air cleaner parts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Float Needle (Valve Only) fit my 911?
It fits the air-cooled Porsche 911 or 930 when the car runs PMO carburetors. It is a PMO carb part, so the carb matters more than the year.
Will it fit original Weber carburetors?
Not confirmed. PMO parts are made for PMO bodies; some are shared with Weber, but check before you order.
Is it genuine PMO?
Yes, PMO part PM-O105-3, distributed in the US by EMPI.
Is it new?
Yes, new genuine PMO.
Is the seat included?
No. This is the needle only; the seat body is PM-O105-0.
Why is my carb flooding?
A worn or dirty float needle is the most common cause; also check float level and fuel pressure.
What else do I need?
A float level check, and a new seat if the old one is worn.
