Fitment
| Years | Vehicle | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1984–1989 | Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 (G-series) | Per EMPI; without catalytic converter |
| 1984–1989 | Carrera 3.2 with factory catalytic converter (all US and California cars) | Removes the converter; not for street use where emissions equipment is required |
| 1975–1989 | Porsche 930 Turbo | Does not fit |
| 1974–1983 | Porsche 911 2.7 / SC 3.0 | Not confirmed; different heat exchangers and no O2 sensor bungs |
| 1989–1994 | Porsche 964 | Does not fit |
EMPI lists this set for the 3.2 Carrera without catalytic converter and says it fits the factory G-model tinware. Every US-market 3.2 Carrera left the factory with a catalytic converter, so on a US car this set is a race / off-road conversion.

Why It Matters
The factory 3.2 Carrera heat exchangers are mild steel. After 30-plus years they rust through, crack at the flanges, leak exhaust into the cabin heat and lose heater output. The factory muffler and converter also restrict flow. A stainless SSI set replaces all of it in one go with parts that will not rot.
The Ø41 mm primaries and free-flow muffler give the 3.2 more top-end breath and the classic sport sound. Because the set is built around the stock G-model tinware, the heater still works and the engine bay stays tidy. JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement and reproduction parts for classic Porsche and Volkswagen, and its Dansk and SSI lines cover hard-to-find Porsche exhaust and body parts. EMPI is JP Group's US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each part with its real OE and JP Group reference numbers so you can check it against your car before you order.
Installation Notes
- This is a full exhaust replacement: plan on penetrating oil, new studs where they break, and new exhaust gaskets at every port.
- Support the heat exchangers on a jack while you fit the port nuts, then hang the muffler and tighten everything evenly.
- Fit an O2 sensor in the bung your DME uses and plug the other one.
- Re-connect heater hoses and check the heater flaps open and close fully.
- Run the engine and check every joint for leaks once it is hot and again after it cools.
- Check your local emissions rules before fitting to a road car that came with a catalytic converter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it fit my 1987 911 Carrera?
Yes, mechanically. EMPI lists the 1984–1989 911 3.2. The set has no catalytic converter, so a US Carrera would be converted to non-cat.
Is it street legal in California?
No. It removes the catalytic converter, so it is for race or off-road use on US and California cars.
Does it include the heat exchangers?
Yes. The set has Ø41 mm stainless heat exchangers, the sport muffler and two Ø70 mm tail pipes.
Will my heater still work?
Yes. SSI heat exchangers keep the heater function and fit the factory G-model tinware.
Does it fit a 911 SC or 930 Turbo?
The 930 is not a fit. The 1978–1983 SC is not confirmed; ask us first.
Is this the same as SSI 92.296?
Yes, EMPI lists JP-9905-0 as 92.296SDSSI, JP ref 1620802710.
Is it new?
Yes, new SSI / JP Group stainless.
