Vintage Speed 23" Classic Sport Quick Shifter for the 1968–1979 VW Bay Window Bus (LHD)
By now most Bay Window shifters have decades of wear in the base, the bushing and the gate, and it shows as a long, wandering throw and a reverse you can find by mistake. The Vintage Speed Classic Sport Quick Shifter fixes the lever end properly. It has a stainless steel shaft, a new pull-up reverse lockout, a redesigned stop plate and about 35% less travel, all at the full 23-inch height a Bay Window needs.
This is the shifter King Performance sells as the "Bay Window Bus Quick Shifter". It is made by Vintage Speed and offered here at King's price, in King's two colour choices, Ivory and Black.

Installation notes
The shifter bolts to the factory location with the supplied stainless hardware. Before you blame the shifter for vague shifting, check the Bay Window shift-rod bushings, the rear shift-rod coupler and the transmission nose-cone bushing. Each one adds play. With the shifter fitted, adjust the stop plate so first, third and reverse engage cleanly, then confirm reverse is only reachable with the lockout lifted. If you are unsure of the procedure, have a qualified VW mechanic install it. Vintage Speed also makes polished and black CNC bases. Contact us if you want one quoted.
