Vintage Speed Classic Quick Shifter for Pre-1960 and Barndoor VW Buses
Early Type 2 owners have always had fewer choices. The Barndoor and pre-1960 Buses use their own shifter with a smaller ball, so the parts that fit a Split Bus from 1960 on will not work. Vintage Speed builds a Classic Quick Shifter specifically for these early Buses. It has a 15.8 mm ball, a stainless steel shaft, a reverse lockout and about 35% less throw than stock. You get a crisp, confident shift in a Bus that is often too valuable to drive with a sloppy one.
This is the shifter King Performance sells as the "Pre 1960 Bus Classic Quick Shifter". It is made by Vintage Speed and offered here at King's price in the same two colours, Ivory and Black.

Installation notes
Check the ball size before ordering. Early Buses use a 15.8 mm ball, and this shifter is built for it. The shifter replaces the factory lever at the stock mounting point. Use the stop plate to position the base so every gear engages cleanly, then confirm the reverse lockout works before driving. Worn shift-rod bushings or a worn rear coupler will still cause slop, so inspect them while you are in there. Vintage Speed also makes polished and black CNC bases for this shifter.
