Dansk Heavy-Duty heater boxes, 95-3012-B left and 95-3013-B right, are European-made stock replacements for VW Type 1 and Type 2 upright 1200–1600cc engines: the 1963–1974 carbureted Beetle, 1971–1974 Super Beetle, 1963–1974 Karmann Ghia, 1973–1974 Thing and 1963–1974 upright-engine Bus. They replace OE 043 255 107 and 043 255 108. Left, right or pair.

Why It Matters
If your Beetle or Bus smells like exhaust with the heat on, or the heat levers do nothing at all, the heater boxes are the usual suspect. After fifty years the inner exhaust pipes rust through, the outer shells rot at the ends, and the flap levers seize.
This stock-style box restores factory cabin heat and defrost, keeps exhaust out of the car and bolts to the stock exhaust. The second side is rarely far behind the first, which is why the pair is usually the right call.
Installation Notes
- Use new exhaust port gaskets and new heater box to muffler gaskets, and soak old studs and nuts in penetrating oil first.
- Reconnect the heater cables and check the flaps open fully and close fully before you refit the tin.
- Check the flexible hoses from the boxes to the heater channels while you're in there; torn hoses cost you most of your heat.
- They ship in a black shipping paint. Most owners repaint or high-temp coat before installing.

Only if it has the upright 1600 engine. The 1700, 1800 and 2.0 Type 4 engines use different heat exchangers.
Will they work with a header or performance exhaust?
No. These are for the stock exhaust. For a header system, use a high-performance 1-1/2 inch heater box made for your header.

Do they come painted?
