VW Heater Boxes & Heat Exchangers

Heater boxes (heat exchangers) for air-cooled VW Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Super Beetle, Thing, Bus and Vanagon: heavy-duty stock replacements, high-performance 1-1/2" boxes for header systems, application-specific boxes for 40hp, fuel-injected Beetle, Type 4 Bus and air-cooled Vanagon, and J-tubes for builds that delete heat altogether.

Which heater box do I need?

  • Stock heat, stock exhaust: a stock-replacement box for your engine. The 1300–1600 upright engine, the 1975–79 fuel-injected Beetle, the 1972–78 Type 4 Bus and the 1980–83 Vanagon all use different boxes.
  • Header system and still want heat: a high-performance 1-1/2" box made to match your header. Expect less heat than stock.
  • No heat needed: J-tubes replace the heater boxes on a stock-style exhaust.
