EMPI Universal Throttle Cable Kit — 15 Ft, Cut-to-Length (00-4863-0)

This is the throttle cable to use when the stock one doesn't fit, or when there is no stock cable length for your build. EMPI 00-4863-0 is a 15-foot, 1.5mm O.D. throttle cable. It has the factory loop on one end and the factory dog leg on the other, and it comes with a cable adapter. You pick the end that suits your pedal, cut off the other, run the cable to the carburetor and trim it to length.

Buggy builders, rail builders and anyone who has shortened a pan knows the problem. A factory cable is either too short or too long, and it's the wrong length at the wrong end. Fifteen feet covers any air-cooled layout we have ever seen, including a rear-engine sand rail with the pedal cluster well forward. At 1.5mm O.D. it still slides through the stock guide tube, so a Bug or Bus that needs a new cable can have one today. You don't have to wait on a year-specific part.

Universal cut-to-length throttle cable for carbureted air-cooled VWs and VW-based buggies. It works with any setup that uses a stock-style guide tube, or an open run, and either the early loop or the late dog-leg pedal hookup.

Installation Notes

• Decide which pedal end you need before you cut. Look at your accelerator pedal: the early style takes the loop and the late style takes the dog leg.
• Feed the cable from the pedal end, through the tunnel guide tube and the engine-bay tube, to the carburetor.
• With the pedal on the floor, set the carburetor to wide-open throttle, then fix the cable in the adapter. Make sure it returns cleanly to idle before you cut the excess.
• Leave an inch or two of extra cable past the adapter until you've road-tested it. You can cut it shorter later, but you can't add length back.
• Inspect the engine-bay guide tube. A kinked or dry tube will wear through a new cable quickly.
