Why It Matters
On the late Bus and air-cooled Vanagon the heater control boxes sit on the ends of the heat exchangers and open or close a flap to send hot air into the van. A rusted or seized box means no heat in winter or heat you can't shut off in summer.
Air-cooled Vanagon heating parts are getting hard to find. This JP box is a direct new replacement.
JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic Volkswagens and Porsches. Its parts are sold under the JP Group, Dansk and Classic names, and EMPI is its US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each JP part with its VW or Porsche OE number and its JP Group reference, so you can check it against your old part, your parts book or the stamp on the original before you order. If you are not sure whether this part fits your car, send us your year, model, chassis number and engine code and we will check it for you before it ships.
Installation Notes
- Check the heater cable moves freely first.
- Use new hose clamps and hoses where needed.
- Adjust the cable so the flap closes fully with the lever off.
- Check for exhaust leaks at the heat exchanger before you finish.
Use the torque values and procedures in a factory or Bentley service manual for your car.
