What's Included
- One right-hand heater control box
Not Included
- Left control box
- Heat exchanger
- Heater cable, clamps and hoses
Why It Matters
The control box has a flap worked by the heater cable. When the flap seizes or the housing rusts, the heat will not turn on or off, and hot air can blow into the car in summer. Broken boxes also let fumes leak if the heat exchanger seal is bad.
These boxes rust where they bolt to the heat exchanger, and the flap shafts wear. A new box restores a heater that actually responds to the lever.
JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic Volkswagens and Porsches. Its parts are sold under the JP Group, Dansk and Classic names, and EMPI is its US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each JP part with its VW or Porsche OE number and its JP Group reference, so you can check it against your old part, your parts book or the stamp on the original before you order. If you are not sure whether this part fits your car, send us your year, model, chassis number and engine code and we will check it for you before it ships.
Installation Notes
- Free up and check the heater cable before you blame the box.
- Use new clamps and hoses where they join.
- Set the flap so it closes fully with the lever off and opens fully with the lever on.
- Lubricate the pivot lightly with high-temperature grease.
Use the torque values and procedures in a factory or Bentley service manual for your car.
