Why It Matters
The center heater pipe hangs under the Bus where it takes road salt, water and stones. Once it rusts through, the hot air leaks out under the van and almost none reaches the cab. Buses with bad pipes are cold even with good heat exchangers.
Replacing the pipe is one of the best things you can do for heat in a Bay Window Bus.
JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic Volkswagens and Porsches. Its parts are sold under the JP Group, Dansk and Classic names, and EMPI is its US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each JP part with its VW or Porsche OE number and its JP Group reference, so you can check it against your old part, your parts book or the stamp on the original before you order. If you are not sure whether this part fits your car, send us your year, model, chassis number and engine code and we will check it for you before it ships.
Installation Notes
- Support the van safely on stands.
- Remove the old clamps and hangers; they are often rusted.
- Fit the new pipe with new connecting hoses or sleeves and clamps.
- Paint or coat any bare steel to slow rust.
- Check heat at the front outlets.
Use the torque values and procedures in a factory or Bentley service manual for your car.
