King Performance Billet Air Cleaner King Nut, 1/4"-20
The wing nut that holds your air cleaner lid on is one of the most-handled fasteners on an air-cooled VW engine. Every time you check the filter, sync carbs or peek at the jets it comes off, and the cheap stamped or chromed-steel versions bend, rust and lose their washers in the engine bay. The King Performance Air Cleaner King Nut replaces that throwaway part with a CNC-machined billet nut that you spin on and off by hand, with a built-in knurled base that does the washer's job.

- Air cleaners that use a 1/4"-20 (UNC) stud to retain the lid, as used on many aftermarket VW carburetor air cleaners

Installation
Remove the old wing nut and washer from the air cleaner stud. Seat the air cleaner lid, thread the King Nut on by hand and snug it down until the knurled base bites the lid. Hand-tight is all it needs; do not use pliers or a wrench on billet aluminum, and do not over-tighten, which can distort the lid or strip the stud. Check the stud length first: it needs enough exposed thread to engage the nut fully.
