Short answer: EMPI 00-9749-0 is a single 15x5.5 dish-style alloy wheel, machine finished, in the 5x112 bolt pattern with 4 in of backspacing. It fits the 1971–1979 VW Bay Window Bus (Type 2) with disc front brakes. It takes EMPI's small-diameter 14mm 60° lug nuts (00-9547-0) on the Bus's M14x1.5 studs, not the factory nuts. Sold each, with center cap and valve stem.
Part numbers: EMPI 00-9749-0 · 0097490 · UPC 707924414325
The dish is the simplest, cleanest wheel you can put on a Bay: a flat, bright machined face that is easy to keep clean and looks right on a stock-height or slightly lowered Bus. Order four for a matched set, or one as a spare.

What's Included
- One EMPI 15x5.5 machine-finished dish wheel, 5x112
- Center cap and valve stem
Not included: tire and lug nuts. You need five EMPI 00-9547-0 small-diameter 14mm 60° nuts per wheel (sold as a set of five with tool) — on our EMPI lug bolt & nut listing. Want all four wheels with nuts? See the Bay Window Bus wheel set of 4.
Why It Matters
The Bay Bus hub is lug-centric: the nuts, not the center bore, center the wheel. Factory Bus nuts are shaped for the factory steel wheel and do not match this wheel's narrow 14mm 60° seat, so a wrong nut only touches on a thin ring and can work loose. Use the matching EMPI nuts. A loaded Bay is heavy, so pair this wheel with Bus-rated Load Range C tires; EMPI does not publish a load rating for the wheel itself.
Install Notes
- Confirm your Bus is 5x112 (1971 and later, disc front brakes) before ordering.
- Test-fit before mounting a tire: check caliper, grease cap and rear axle nut clearance.
- Torque to your factory manual spec in a star pattern and re-check after the first 50 miles.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Will the EMPI dish wheel fit my 1973 Bay Window Bus? Yes. The 1971–1979 Bay Bus uses the 5x112 pattern this wheel is drilled for.
- Will it fit my 1969 Bus? No. The 1950–1970 Bus uses the 5x205 wide-five pattern.
- Does it fit a Vanagon? The Vanagon is also 5x112, but EMPI does not list it for this wheel. Ask us before ordering for a Vanagon.
- Can I reuse my factory Bus lug nuts? No. This wheel needs EMPI's small-diameter 14mm 60° nuts, 00-9547-0, five per wheel.
- What is the load rating? EMPI does not publish one for this wheel. Run Bus-rated Load Range C (or higher) tires, and ask us if you carry heavy loads.
