Short answer: EMPI 00-9747-0 is a single 15x5.5 dish-style alloy wheel, machine finished, in the 5x205 wide-five bolt pattern. It fits the 1950–1967 VW Beetle, 1956–1966 Karmann Ghia and 1961–1965 Type 3. It takes 60° cone-seat M12x1.5 lug bolts. It is not listed for the wide-five Bus, which uses M14x1.5 bolts. Sold each, with a chrome center cap and chrome valve stem.
Part numbers: EMPI 00-9747-0 · 0097470 · UPC 707924414301
The dish is the cleanest wheel shape there is: a flat, bright machined face with no spokes to scrub, on the early wide-five pattern. Order four for a matched set, or one as a spare.

What's Included
- One EMPI 15x5.5 machine-finished dish wheel, 5x205
- Chrome center cap with logo
- Chrome valve stem
Not included: tire and lug bolts. You need five M12x1.5 60° cone-seat lug bolts per wheel — EMPI 00-9711-0 is a set of five, on our EMPI chrome lug bolt listing.
Why It Matters
Stock wide-five VW steel wheels use ball-seat bolts. This alloy uses a 60° cone seat, and ball-seat bolts in a cone-seat hole only touch on a thin ring and can work loose. Buy the matching 60° bolts with the wheel. The wide-five Bus is a different case: it uses M14x1.5 lug bolts, and EMPI publishes no load rating or Bus fitment for this wheel, so we do not list it for the Bus. Ask us if you need wheels for a Split or early Bay Bus.
Install Notes
- Confirm your hub is 5x205 before ordering.
- Test-fit before mounting a tire: check brake drum, caliper and fender clearance.
- Torque to your factory manual or the bolt maker's spec in a star pattern and re-check after the first 50 miles.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Will this dish wheel fit my 1966 Beetle? Yes. The 1950–1967 Beetle and 1956–1966 Karmann Ghia use the 5x205 wide-five pattern this wheel is drilled for.
- Will it fit my 1968 or later Beetle? No. From 1968 the Beetle is 4x130 (the Karmann Ghia changed to 4x130 a year earlier, for 1967). Order the 4x130 version, EMPI 00-9748-0.
- Does it fit a VW Bus? No, we do not list it for any Bus. The 1950–1970 wide-five Bus uses M14x1.5 lug bolts (this wheel is specified for M12x1.5) and needs load-rated wheels, and EMPI publishes no Bus fitment or load rating for it. Ask us for Bus options. It also does not fit the 1971–1979 Bay Bus, which is 5x112 (EMPI 00-9749-0).
- Do these come with lug bolts? No. The wheel comes with a center cap and valve stem only. You need five M12x1.5 60° cone-seat lug bolts per wheel, such as EMPI 00-9711-0 (set of five).
- Is this sold as a set? No, it is sold each. Order four for a full set.
- What is the offset? We are confirming it with EMPI, because the published figures for this part disagree. Ask us before ordering if clearance is tight on your car.
