Why It Matters
The factory bracket is stamped steel that rusts, deforms and wears at the pivot over decades of use. The billet 7075 bracket eliminates that wear-prone geometry and provides a precision pivot that won't develop play; on many Manx and VW-based builds the original mounting is missing entirely, and this bracket restores proper parking brake function.
7075-T6 is one of the strongest aluminum alloys available, used widely in aerospace and motorsports. For a bracket that holds a car stationary on a hill that strength matters, and it machines to tighter tolerances than stamped steel while never rusting.
Installation Notes
Installs with basic hand tools: the bracket goes in the factory location, the pin slides through, and the C-clip retains it. It interfaces with the standard VW parking brake handle and cable setup.
This part is designed and fabricated in-house at our Orange, California shop rather than sourced from an overseas catalog supplier, so we control the material, the tolerances and the finish start to finish. If you run into a fitment question specific to your build (shortened chassis, buggy conversion, non-stock transaxle, etc.), contact us before installing and we can walk through it with you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why aluminum instead of steel for a parking brake bracket?
7075-T6 aluminum has strength comparable to mild steel at a fraction of the weight, doesn't rust, and machines to tighter tolerances than stamped steel.
Is the steel pin included?
Yes. The kit comes with the elongated steel pin, C-clip and mounting hardware; you don't need to source hardware separately.
Will this work on my Manx without modification?
For most Manx and buggy builds using a standard VW pan, yes; it mounts in the factory location. If your build has heavily modified chassis geometry in that area, contact us before ordering.
Can I install it myself?
Yes, with basic hand tools. The bracket installs in the factory location, the pin slides through, and the C-clip retains it.
Will it work with my original VW parking brake handle?
Yes. It interfaces with the standard VW parking brake handle and cable setup.
Does this fit a 1967 VW Beetle?
Yes. Washburn's Metal #CH04 fits the 1949–1979 VW Beetle with the standard parking brake assembly, plus the Meyers Manx and other VW-pan buggies.
