What's Included
- One cap (Single) or four caps (Set of 4).
- Cap only: no wheel, lug bolts or valve stem.
Why It Matters
EMPI separates these two caps by wheel code — AE and RK — rather than by wheel name, which is why the chrome cap fits AE wheels only.
If you do not know your wheel's code, send us a photo of the wheel face and the back of your old cap (or a measurement of the cap) and we will confirm before you order. Retailers sometimes call these "8-spoke" or "Riviera" caps; EMPI's own fitment is by code.
Install Notes
- Clean the wheel's center bore so the cap's retaining ring or clips seat evenly.
- Line the cap up square to the bore and press it in by hand with even pressure around the edge. Do not hammer a plastic cap.
- To remove, work it out evenly from the back side of the wheel or with a plastic trim tool wrapped in a rag. Prying on one edge can crack the cap or mark the wheel.
- Check that the cap clears the axle nut, grease cap or spindle before you drive. If it touches, you need a taller cap (where EMPI offers one) — see the table above.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What do AE and RK mean on EMPI center caps? They are EMPI wheel codes. The black 00-9567-0 fits AE and RK wheels; the chrome logo 00-9674-0 fits AE wheels only.
- Which years does EMPI list for these caps? Type 1 from August 1967, Type 3 from August 1965 to 1973, Karmann Ghia from August 1966 to 1974, plus Buggy and Baja — the 4-lug VWs.
- Does this fit the current Sprintstar 8-spoke wheel? No. Current EMPI Sprintstar wheels use the 00-9707-0 standard cap or 10-1106-0 tall cap.
- Can I buy a set of four? Yes. Choose "Set of 4" in the Quantity option to get four caps (SKU 00-9567-0-X4) for 10% less than buying four singles.
- Are you an authorized EMPI dealer? Yes. Washburn's Metal is an authorized EMPI dealer, so this is genuine EMPI stock shipped from our Orange, California shop.
