What's Included
- One cap (Single) or four matching caps (Set of 4).
- Cap only: no wheel, lug bolts or valve stem.
- EMPI does not publish a cap diameter for these caps; they are made to fit EMPI BRM wheels.
Why It Matters
BRM-style wheels are one of the most popular looks on early VWs, and a missing or scuffed center cap is the first thing people notice. EMPI makes the BRM cap in three versions so you can match the finish of your other caps or step up to the taller cap.
The tall 1-1/4" cap gives more room behind the cap than the low caps. If a low cap touches the axle nut or hub on your car, the tall cap is the one to try. EMPI does not publish the height of the low caps, so we cannot quote an exact difference; ask us if clearance is tight.
Install Notes
- Clean the wheel's center bore so the cap's retaining ring or clips seat evenly.
- Line the cap up square to the bore and press it in by hand with even pressure around the edge. Do not hammer a plastic cap.
- To remove, work it out evenly from the back side of the wheel or with a plastic trim tool wrapped in a rag. Prying on one edge can crack the cap or mark the wheel.
- Check that the cap clears the axle nut, grease cap or spindle before you drive. If it touches, you need a taller cap (where EMPI offers one) — see the table above.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Which center cap fits an EMPI BRM wheel? EMPI makes three BRM caps: the low cap 00-9705-0, the chrome low cap 00-9715-0 and the tall 1-1/4" cap 00-9704-0. All carry the BRM, EMPI and Speedwell logos.
- What is the difference between the low and tall BRM caps? The tall cap 00-9704-0 is 1-1/4" tall, which gives more clearance behind the cap. Choose it if a low cap touches the hub or axle nut.
- Do BRM caps fit 4-lug and 5-lug BRM wheels? The cap fits EMPI BRM wheels; EMPI sells BRM wheels in 5x205, 4x130 and 5x112. The New Beetle BRM wheel 00-9737-0 uses its own cap, 00-9733-0.
- Can I buy a set of four? Yes. Choose "Set of 4" in the Quantity option to get four caps (SKU 00-9705-0-X4) for 10% less than buying four singles.
- Are you an authorized EMPI dealer? Yes. Washburn's Metal is an authorized EMPI dealer, so this is genuine EMPI stock shipped from our Orange, California shop.
