EMPI Wheel Bolt Cap — Black, Each | VW Beetle 1973–1979 (98-6113-B)
The small black cap that presses over the head of a factory lug bolt on late-model Beetles. Sold individually, because that is exactly how they go missing — one at a time, usually at a tire shop, and never all at once.
These caps are cosmetic, but their absence is one of those details that quietly cheapens an otherwise tidy car. They also keep road grit and water out of the bolt head, which means the next person to pull a wheel gets a clean socket fit instead of a packed, rusty recess. On a restoration where the wheels have been repainted, replacing a full set is a few dollars very well spent.
Vehicle Fitment
- VW Beetle & Super Beetle: 1973–1979, Type 1 with stock lug bolts
- Fits EMPI stock lug bolts 98-6111-B and 98-6112-B
Note: These fit the stock late-model bolt head. They will not fit chrome aftermarket lug bolts with a 19mm or 22mm hex, or taper-seat custom-wheel bolts.
Key Features & Benefits
- Correct late-Beetle profile: Matches the factory appearance on 1973–1979 cars.
- Black finish: The stock colour — no polishing, no mismatch.
- Sold each: Replace the one you lost instead of buying a whole set.
- Keeps the bolt head clean: Less grit in the recess means an easier socket fit next time.
- Genuine EMPI: This is a genuine EMPI product.

Installation Notes
- Clean the bolt head first. A recess packed with grit will not let the cap seat, and a cap that does not seat will be gone within a week.
- Press straight on — rocking a cap into place distorts the retaining lip.
- Fit them after torquing, never before.
- Buy a couple of spares. They are inexpensive and they do disappear.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How many does a car need? One per lug bolt — 16 on a 4-lug Beetle.
- Will these fit my chrome aftermarket lug bolts? No. They are sized for the stock late-Beetle bolt head.
- Are they reusable? Usually, if removed carefully. The retaining lip is the part that gives up.
- Is this the same as a hubcap or centre cap? No — this is the small individual cap over one lug bolt head.
- What colour options are there? This part is black, the stock finish for the period.
