Why It Matters

Oil creeping from behind the crank pulley and a fine film flung across the belt is the front main seal telling you it is tired. A fresh seal reseals the Type 4 crankshaft at the pulley end and stops the weep before it fouls the belt.

Installation Notes

The seal sits behind the crank pulley at the front of the crankshaft and seals the pulley end of a 1700-2000cc Type 4.
