EMPI Cosmo Wheel — 15 x 5.5 in, Air-Cooled VW (Sold Each)
The EMPI Cosmo wheel is a Cosmic-style design inspired by 1970s aftermarket wheels, with raised spokes and holes between the spokes, cast in lightweight aluminum with polished faces and gloss-black insets. 15 x 5.5 in sizing with a polished lip gives a period-correct look. Sold each — buy four for a full set. Choose your bolt pattern and finish, and confirm backspacing for your application before ordering. Three options on this listing are not Cosmo wheels: 10-1082-0 is EMPI's Gasser, 10-1121-0 is EMPI's Corsa and the polished 4x130 option 10-1098-0 is EMPI's Polished Smoothie (details below).
Vehicle Fitment
Fits air-cooled VW with the matching bolt pattern — 4x130mm (late Bug/Ghia/Type 3) or 5x112mm / 5x130mm / 5x205mm per the option you select. Verify caliper and fender clearance and confirm the offset/backspacing suits your build.

Technical Specifications
- Brand: EMPI
- Style: Cosmo (raised spokes)
- Size: 15 x 5.5 in, every variant
- Bolt Pattern: 4x130mm, 5x112mm, 5x130mm or 5x205mm (VW Wide-5) — set by the variant you choose
- Offset (ET): +35mm, 4-1/2 in backspacing on the 4x130mm Cosmo (10-1100-0); +22mm on the 5x205mm Cosmo. The 5x112mm Cosmo (10-1084-0) has 4 in backspacing; the 5x112mm Gasser option (10-1082-0) is ET20 with 4 in backspacing; the polished 4x130 Smoothie (10-1098-0) is ET5, 3-3/8 in. The "16 ET" and "17 ET" in two option names are EMPI's wheel weights in lb, not offsets. EMPI does not publish an offset for the 5x130mm variant.
- Lug seat (changes with pattern): 5x130 Cosmo (10-1083-0) takes ball-seat lugs; 5x205 Cosmo (10-1101-0) takes 60° conical lugs; 5x112 Cosmo (10-1084-0) and the 5x112 Gasser (10-1082-0) need EMPI's special 14mm seat hardware (EMPI 00-9547-0 nuts); 4x130 (10-1100-0, 10-1098-0): 60° conical, M14x1.5. Order lugs for your exact part number.
- Gasser option (10-1082-0, "Gloss Black 5x112 (17 ET)"): this option is EMPI's Gasser wheel, not the Cosmo — black with polished lip, 15 x 5.5 in, 5x112mm (1971–1979 Bay Window Bus), ET20, 4 in backspacing (the "17 ET" in the option name is EMPI's 17 lb weight).
- Corsa option (10-1121-0): this option is EMPI's Corsa-style wheel, not a Cosmo — gunmetal grey with polished lip, 15 x 5.5 in, 5x205mm (VW Wide-5), ET +14mm, 3.75 in backspacing, 60° cone lug seat.
- Polished 4x130 option (10-1098-0): this option is EMPI's Polished Smoothie alloy, not a Cosmo — 15 x 5.5 in, 4x130mm, ET5, 3-3/8 in backspacing, 60° seat. Its Smoothie center cap (10-1099-0) is not currently available — call us.
- Center Bore: not published by EMPI
- Material: Cast aluminum, polished face with gloss-black inset and polished lip
- Includes: Chrome valve stem; center cap on most options (order cap 10-1106-0 separately for 10-1100-0, per EMPI); lug bolts sold separately
- Sold As: Each
The hub bore is what actually decides whether a wheel seats on your hub or drum — measure yours before ordering. This catalog mixes 4x130 VW, 5x205 Wide-5 and 5x130 Porsche fitments, and they are not interchangeable.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this priced per wheel or per set? Sold each. Buy four for a full set.
- Are lug bolts included? No. Lug bolts are sold separately; a chrome valve stem is included, and a center cap on most options (EMPI says to order the 10-1106-0 cap separately for the 4x130 Cosmo 10-1100-0).
- Which lug hardware do I need? It depends on the pattern: ball-seat lugs for the 5x130 Cosmo, 60° conical for the 5x205 Cosmo, and EMPI's special 14mm seat hardware (00-9547-0) for the 5x112 Cosmo and Gasser, and 60° conical M14x1.5 for the 4x130 options.
- Which bolt pattern should I choose? Pick the pattern that matches your car: 4x130mm (late Bug, Ghia, Type 3), 5x112mm, 5x130mm or 5x205mm (VW Wide-5), then confirm backspacing for your build.
- What size is the wheel and what is the center bore? 15 x 5.5 in on every variant. EMPI does not publish the center bore, so measure your hub before ordering.
- What offset does it have? +35mm (4-1/2 in backspacing) on the 4x130mm Cosmo and +22mm on the 5x205mm Cosmo. The 5x112mm Cosmo has 4 in backspacing and the 5x112mm Gasser option is ET20, 4 in backspacing. The "16 ET" / "17 ET" in two option names are EMPI wheel weights, not offsets. EMPI does not publish an offset for the 5x130mm variant.
- Is the "Gloss Black 5x112 (17 ET)" option a Cosmo wheel? No. That option (10-1082-0) is EMPI's Gasser: 15 x 5.5 in, 5x112mm, ET20, 4 in backspacing, black with polished lip, special 14mm seat. The "17 ET" is its 17 lb weight.
- Is the polished 4x130 option a Cosmo wheel? No. 10-1098-0 is EMPI's Polished Smoothie alloy: 15 x 5.5 in, 4x130mm, ET5, 60° seat.
- Is the gunmetal grey 5x205 option a Cosmo wheel? No. The gunmetal grey option (10-1121-0) is EMPI's Corsa-style wheel: 15 x 5.5 in, 5x205mm, ET +14mm, polished lip, 60° cone lug seat.
- What is it made of? Cast aluminum with a polished face, gloss-black insets and a polished lip.
